Transforms, masks, and animation

Frame your clips, control visible regions, and animate supported properties.

Transform a selected element#

Select media or text and use Inspector to adjust the available position, scale, rotation, opacity, and sizing controls. The Viewer helps you check the result in the scene's canvas. Project canvas dimensions and export dimensions are separate: export scales the completed scene, including its text and effects.

Use a mask#

The mask library includes Rectangle, Ellipse, Diamond, Star, Heart, Split, Cinematic Bars, Text, and Custom. Masks control which part of an element is visible. Select a mask and adjust its available geometry and feathering controls; different shapes expose different parameters.

Keep a visible layer beneath the element when checking a cutout. Soft edges can blend into that layer, while an empty background may make them appear darker than expected. Custom paths and text masks should be reviewed closely when resizing or snapping.

Add motion with keyframes#

  1. Select a property that has a keyframe control.
  2. At the first timeline position, add a keyframe for its starting value.
  3. Move the playhead and change the value for the next pose.
  4. Preview between the positions and adjust the available interpolation or graph controls.

Only supported properties animate. The Color workspace has its own node keyframe controls, and Audio uses automation lanes. A control's static value may be overridden when an animation lane is active.

Speed and freeze frames#

Use Inspector's Speed section for supported media speed changes and the Timeline's freeze-frame tool when holding a frame. Recheck duration, neighboring cuts, and sound alignment after retiming. Editable application handoffs do not reproduce every animation curve or mask; use Preserve appearance when the rendered result matters most.
